Former Barcelona Footballer Xavi Donates yacht to help refugees in Mediterranean Sea
The former Barcelona midfielder, Xavi, has donated his yacht to a non-governmental organisation helping those caught up in the ongoing refugee crisis.
The 36-year-old midfielder, who now plays for Qatari club Al Sadd SC, is working alongside Proactivia Open Arms (POA), who are dedicated to saving lives at sea.
The POA are currently stationed in Lesbos, a Greek island which received more than 55,000 refugees in the first six months of the year.
At least 3,000 refugees have died while attempting to cross the water from war-torn regions in north Africa and the Middle East since January, with 2016 on course to be the deadliest year on record.
